Lab Vision
The MacManes lab strives to be internationally recognized leader in the field of organismal biology and ecophysiological genomics. To accomplish this goal, we push ourselves to be careful in our observations, broad in our questions, and vigorous in our pursuit of research funding. We are generous in the dissemination our products - indeed, our vision of the future of Science is collaborative more so than competitive.
Research
Ecophysiology and Genomics
The MacManes lab is interested in understanding the specialized physiologic and genomic mechanisms possessed by desert animals (especially mammals), allowing them to survive without water.

NeurogenomicsRaising offspring successfully involves transitioning from aggressive and sexual behaviors to more caring and nurturing ones. The MacManes lab uses genomic techniques in an Avian model to understand how the brain brings about this transition.
|
BioinformaticsThe MacManes Lab is actively involved in developing algorithms and pipelines for the assembly and characterization of transcriptomes.
